The ILI9341 displays are great for projects - easy to code, look great and the touchscreen gives all types of user interface options to explore.
They can however be a pain to get initially setup, which is why I opted to make a adapter for easily connecting the display to an ESP8266 microcontroller. This way I can use the TFT display with other prjects as well as it is not permently connected to the ESP. Simply connect to the header pins, and we're good to go!
Here is a picture of the initial setup. Anytime I wanted to work on a project with this display, a lot of hookup wiring was needed and this took time.
The above images are fine for prototyping, but can slow down the build process having to repeat the connections for each new project.
The adapter simplifies the process by connecting the necerssary power and data pins. The following images were taken during assembly.
